This music video basically shows a boy risking his life several times for 5 second to be with his girlfriend. I Think it attracts the audience as it shows us his goal and how he does anything to achieve it, this is relevant to the audience as everyone has a goal in life but most people don't have the will power to fully achieve it. The genre is Indie Rock with mainly teenagers or young adults as their audience. I know this is the correct audience for this genre as from coursework research and YouTube statistics that the age is between 13-44, male and female. This video is not quite like a lot other videos from this genre as it has slightly more depth and meaning and has a more powerful story.
There is lots of technical, symbolic and written conventions in this video such as camera techniques, clothing, colours and music which i will talk about later in the essay. The song lyrics are suggesting the artist is expressing his feelings and emotions through his music and that he has been through allot in his life. A line I really think emphasizes this is, “My heart is like an open highway", which I think shows his personality and how he is open and kind hearted, yet at the same time, mean his heart is broken from all the tragedy he’s been through. This really relates to the target audience as almost everyone has relationships and emotional times in them, especially in teenage years or young adulthood.
I think the artists wants to portray a strong image, represented by lots low angled camera shots, so the audience can look up to him in times of need as he has been through it. The lighting is quite dark and gloomy in the master shot but when the shot changes to the boy running, it becomes brighter. This makes him seem more powerful and 'Un-Stoppable'. Most of the characters are quite young except for the band that is older and wiser which strengthens the image the artist wants to portray.
The location is in an underground road tunnel. I really like the simplicity of the location and the strength of the connotation behind it. Since it is underground, it shows their emotions being hidden, and scared of facing reality and shadowing below it. Then, at the end of the video, it shows this fearless boy running into this tunnel of sad emotions not worrying about this and focusing on getting to his girlfriend. This shows his emotional strength and how he can control his emotions and can overcome them with will and love.
This image makes the artist popular as it gives the audience a sense of hope and someone to turn to and follow when in times of need. Audience interaction is used to gain popularity from the audience through live performances and them reaching out to them, nearly touching them. This may not be huge amount, but this makes the audience feel hugely involved.

The video starts with a boy living his normal life on his computer until his girlfriend calls and he stops that and rushes to go and see her. On the way out he still takes the rubbish out for his mother. I think this represents how love changed his old life and how he's changes his lifestyle, yet still helps his mother out with his old one. There is one unusual editing technique I noticed in particular which is when he’s running the own clock is spinning fast and out of control which is emphasizing how time 'flies' when you’re in a rush and also how time 'flies' when you’re in love.
Low angles are the main camera angles used in the video when focused on the band, and as I stated earlier represents high authority and wisdom. There is allot on tracking, medium shots, close ups and long shots and a few whip pans.
