Music Video Camera Angles - Pianist

Here are the some of the shots we will use in our video to film the pianist / lead singer.

Extreme Close Up

We want to use an ECU of his hands to show his skill and passion for the music he is playing and also to make the audience feel more involved.

Close Up

A CU shot will be used on the artists face as it will be perfect to help set the mood of the song by showing his emotions and feelings.

Medium Shot

We will use a MS to give a broader and clear view of the artist and also to show his body and face movements synchronising in time with his hands.

Long Shot

Using a LS, we will be able to show and focus on the artists stage presents awell as giving an even broader view of the stage.

Low Angle

LA shots are mainly used to represent high authority, confidence and strength. In our music video we use it mainly just to show confidence and strength.

High Angle / Areal Shot

These angles are used wither to represent low authority, shyness and weakness, but also to set the scene really well.

Hybrid Genres

Hybrid Genre is when two different genres are used in something - in this insatnce, in music.

Rap-Rock songs usually contain traditional instruments such as drums, bass guitars and rock like guitars, and vocals are included by rapping, singing or sometimes both. Lots of people associate
nu-metal and rap core although they are just specific examples of Rap-Rock.

Nu-Metal is a harder, heavier music with electronic elements. Bands like Slipknot and Godsmack fall under this genre.

Rapcore is a hybrid between rap and hardcore punk. Good examples of this genre are Linkin Park and Rage Against The Machines.

A great song from linken park is in the link below:

Gratifiactions

Gratification is an influential tradition in media research. This focuses on why people use particular media rather than on content. Gratification is one of the broader trends among media researchers and is concerned with ‘what people do with media’, allowing for a wide variety and lots of interpretations. On the other hand, some people say that gratifications can be seen as effects – e.g. thrillers are likely to generate similar responses among most viewers.

Gratification has four main elements in media use. These are:

Information
• Finding out about relevant events and conditions in immediate surroundings, society and the world
• Seeking advice on practical matters or opinion and decision choices
• Satisfying curiosity and general interest
• Learning; self-education
• Gaining a sense of security through knowledge

Personal Identity
• Finding reinforcement for personal values
• Finding models of behaviour
• Identifying with valued other (in the media)
• Gaining insight into one's self

Integration and Social Interaction
• Gaining insight into circumstances of others; social empathy
• Identifying with others and gaining a sense of belonging
• Finding a basis for conversation and social interaction
• Having a substitute for real-life companionship
• Helping to carry out social roles
• Enabling one to connect with family, friends and society

Entertainment
• Escaping, or being diverted, from problems
• Relaxing
• Getting intrinsic cultural or aesthetic enjoyment
• Filling time
• Emotional release
• Sexual arousal

Dyer's Star Theory - Stars as Constructs

Stars as Constructs

A star is not a “real person”. They are constructed, artificial images, even though they say they are experiencing real like problems and emotions. Most stars have a USP (unique selling point), mainly so they can be parodied because of it. Stars, especially pop stars have quite a big advantage over film stars as their image is a constant construct, rather than it changing depending on what film they choose to act in.

Industry and Audience

Stars are commodities, manufactured by the music industry to make money out of the audience as they respond very well to a stars persona buy buying their records and becoming fans. Record companies revolve around their stars, nurturing them into the shape they think the audience want.
